February 1, 2016 BPS Program - Fluorescence in Fossils
Our February speaker will be Dr. Bill Fowler who will present a program titled “Fluorescence in Fossils.” Dr. Fowler studied fluorescence as part of his graduate work in chemistry at the University of Florida. He will bring to the meeting a UV light and some of the fossil specimens covered in the talk for viewing after the presentation. Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A at 7:30pm. January 4, 2016 BPS Program - World of Paleo in 2015
The January speaker is James Lames, Curator of Paleontology at the Black Belt Museum and Professor of Zoology at the University of West Alabama. He will be speaking on “What happened in the world of paleontology in 2015.”
The business meeting, including elections and installation of officers, will begin at 7pm. The lecture will begin at 7:30.
Hoover Public Library, Meeting Room A. Free and open to the public.

October 21, 2015 - National Fossil Day Exhibit, Smith Hall, Tuscaloosa, AL
Submitted by admin2 on Sun, 12/06/2015 - 9:37pmThe University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa celebrated National Fossil Day at Smith Hall on October 21 - a week late this year - all the paleontologists were attending the annual SVP meeting on National Fossil Day! BPS was invited to set up an exhibit, along with a number of other exhibitors, including the Geologic Survey of Alabama, the Marine Science Club, the Alabama Museum of Natural History (who had spectacular specimens on display), geology classes, and the Evolutionary Studies Club.
