Our speaker for August will be Dr. Ken Marion, Emeritus Professor of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The title of his presentation is “All About Snakes.” Business meeting: 7:00 to 7:30; Public Program: 7:30-8:30. HOMEWOOD Public Library, Room 116. Free and open to the public.

Our speaker for July will be Richard Carroll who is with the Geological Survey of Alabama on the UA campus. He will speak on “Fossil Pollen and Alabama Honey.” Business meeting: 7:00 to 7:30 pm; Public Program: 7:30-8:30 pm. Hoover Public Library, Lower Level. Free and open to the public.

Dr. John Hall, a fabulous teacher, speaker and storyteller, passed away June 7, 2016. 

Our speaker for June is James Lamb, Curator of Paleontology at the Black Belt Museum and Professor of Zoology at the University of West Alabama. Hoover Public Library, Theater Conference Room. The title of his talk is "Meteoroids, Asteroids, Comets, Oh My! Free and open to the public.

BPS members were invited to participate in the 13th Annual "Fossil Road Show" held in Jackson, Mississippi, at the Mississippi Museum of Natural History.  BPS showcased Alabama fossils, and set up a display of photos of the dinosaur dig for the newly named "Eotrachodon orientalis" that was found and excavated several years ago by BPS members under the leadership of James Lamb. 

On probably what turned out to be one of the most beautiful days in January, BPS members set off for North Alabama, to a site that hasn't been collected in at least 25 years.  Numerous archimedes, blastoids, crinoids, and trilobites were found.  With a Mardi Gras cake for a lunch treat, then dinner that evening at a local restaurant, we couldn't have asked for a more pleasant day.

Our speaker for May is Dr. A. Brooke Persons, Cultural Resources Investigator at UA’s Office of Archaeological Research. She will be discussing her fieldwork in Cuba focusing on the emergence of social inequality and the nature of Indo-Hispanic interactions. Hoover Public Library, Theater Conference Room at 7:30pm. Free and open to the public.

Our speaker for April is George Phillips, Paleontology Curator at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, who will speak on a Late Oligocene Coastal Ecosystem from Wayne County, Mississippi. Hoover Public Library, Theater Conference Room. Free and open to the public.
