"Lost Worlds" Wraps Up Museum Lecture Series

Anniston, AL - Anniston Museum's special lecture series in conjunction with the blockbuster exhibition "A T. rex named Sue", wraps up this month with a lecture on Lost Worlds in Alabama Rocks, Thursday, November 15, from 6-7:30pm, in the Museum lobby.

Guest lecturer Dr. Jim Lacefield lives in rural Colbert County near Tuscumbia with his wife Faye. He is a recently retired adjunct professor of Biology and Earth Science from the University of North Alabama. He now spends most of his time writing articles for the popular press on geology, geologic history and other aspects of Alabama's natural environment, as well as in giving teacher workshops and natural history talks to environmental groups. Jim holds a doctorate in science education from the University of Alabama, with specializations in Biology and Geology. He has a keen interest in fossils, ancient life and geologic history and how rock layers can provide information on the Earth's past.

Dr. Lacefield's book on Alabama's geologic history, entitled Lost Worlds in Alabama Rocks: A Guide to the State's Ancient Life and Landscapes was published in 2000 by the Alabama Geological Society. The book is in its fourth printing, and is being used in a number of geology and earth science classes from the middle school through the college levels. The book has been adopted as a text or supplementary text by eight universities and he is nearing completion on a much larger second edition of the book, due out later this year.

His lecture at the Museum will be derived from this book. Those wishing to attend Dr. Lacefield's lecture may do so at no cost. Attendees who also wish to see the the "A T. rex Named Sue" exhibit, may purchase a specially discounted ticket before the lecture, at $5 per person. Call 256-237-6766 for information.

Dr. Lacefield's book would make a wonderful gift for the fossil lover in your life, and is on sale now in the Museum store! The Museum store closes fifteen minutes before the Museum's advertised closing time, and will be closed during the time of the lecture. Please plan to visit the Museum Store during regular Store hours. Store visitors, please note: Due to special admission procedures during "A T. Rex Named Sue", if you wish to visit the Museum Store only, and do not wish to visit the exhibits, please inform the receptionist at the admissions desk, who will arrange a staff member to escort you into the store.
